Classic Honda

Classic Honda

The Honda motor vehicle company started life as a piston ring manufacturer with Soichiro Honda in the driving seat. It was his factory that, after the second Great War, that produced a very basic motorcycle as the country had been ravaged by war and basic transport was very much needed. Honda attached a motor engine to a bicycle and Honda had its first, if a bit shabby, classic Honda motor cycle. It was cheap and efficient and that was all that was needed in the aftermath of war, but a new age was just around the corner that would prove fruitful for Honda.

Soichiro Honda had a great passion for motor sport having been a race driver he decided to enter five of his sports bikes into the Isle of Man TT race and in 1961 the team had their first win in the 125 and the 250 with Mike Hailwood being the rider.

When people talk about classic Honda they usually will go on to talk about the CB range or the GL or Gold Wing models. The classic Honda gold wing was first delivered to the public in the mid seventies, it was a 1000 flat four cylinder engine and front and back disc brakes perfect for touring. Riders added luggage carriers to the bikes and set off around the world in luxurious comfort. The CBR series are designed and built to replicate the Honda team sport bikes for road users, these bikes range from a 150 engine up to 1100.

We aim to have the best classic Honda motorcycles for sale in good and original condition and we are always looking to buy good or exceptional examples. We buy most of our bikes in the UK, although we will consider European and North American origin machines too.

Honda CBX

The Honda CBX we are show casing here is a rare original United Kingdom registered example. This is a very original bike with standard factory pipes and only two owners from new. This really is classic bike, one of the most sought after classic Japanese machines.

The Honda CBX was produced between 1978 and 1982 and the original specifications were 272.01 kilograms in weight with a 58.86 wheelbase. The seat height was 31.9 inches with ground clearance of 5.906 inches. The Honda CBX was the worlds very first six cylinder, twenty four valve double over head cam machine that pulled over 1000 CC.

In 1981 the Honda CBX was reconfigured to incorporate fairing and saddle bags as a touring bike. Other changes included the rear suspension from the dual to mono shock and the progressive linkage system was also introduced.

By 1982 the Honda stopped production of the CBX. The bike was quite expensive and those who could afford one were not necessarily the best riders. Bad riders reported that the bike didn't handle well but this was untrue, the bike weighing six hundred pounds needs a steady rider and if rode well the bike handled perfectly, but these rumours coupled with the cost drove the bike in to the doldrums and production stopped. Some CBX enthusiasts have now added modern tyres and replaced some of the original features with look-a-like modern parts and report that this bike is an absolute dream to ride.

If you are interested in the Honda CBX Six you can contact us by telephone or email and we can discuss what we have available, we also buy bikes.
